Lesson Learnt 3
The Make-Up of a Good Golf Shot – is around 75% swing and 25% a correctly fitted club, so your swing will always be the predominant factor. If you’re playing with clubs that are totally unsuited to you then you will see a significant improvement when you play with correctly fitted clubs. If on the other hand your clubs are pretty well suited to you, let’s say 20% out of the 25%, we only have a 5% improvement to work with.
So examining this in more detail, let us say that you have a series of lesson from a competent golf teacher (and there aren’t many of them around, believe you me !) who, we will say, makes a 10% improvement to your swing which of the 75% “swing bit” totals 7.5%. But a 10% improvement to the “part” of your clubs that can be improved will only yield 10% of the available 5% which equals 0.5% !!
To end let us reiterate the 6 things that make a club “work” for you. They are:
oA head you find visually appealing, of the correct design to suit your game and of the correct loft and lie
oA shaft of the correct flex with a shaft speed that matches your clubhead speed.
oA shaft of the correct length
oA grip of the correct size
oThe whole club having a swingweight (head feel) that you prefer.
Having got this. Go out and learn to wing it to the best of your ability ! End of story !!!
